"When the Trees Sing" is a watercolour pencil on wood board painting I completed it in a state of wonder. I was tucked up on a big rock overlooking expanses of bush and water. Across the way were some powerlines dwarfed by the great expanse of trees, grasstrees and different bird species singing.
Every time I make a thing I assume I probably won't be able to make a thing. I don't know why this is what I assume, but it does mean that when something succeeds its a really joyful surprise.
This set of paintings gave me the great opportunity to not just create the scene once but twice. Both times wondering if I could manage it, both times something come out that I really enjoyed. The first painting had a strange and happy accident of a circular lightened stain (which became a kind of sun spot). When I was asked to make a similar image I had no idea how I'd create this effect again. I found out a cream coloured watercolour pencil could also have a similar effect.
I like that both of the pictures are of the same snap shot of landscape but they both have little differences; shadows or placements of trees, rock ledge and powerline angles, in the second painting a lovely bit of purple made it in too.
If these paintings are anything to go by, I encourage you to do the thing you want to try but think you can't. You might find unexpectedly that you can, the process might even be joyful!
If you like any of the artworks in my portfolio please feel free to ask for a commission for something similar.
That is how the painting below came in to existence. It was a joy for me to create and was commissioned as a gift for a loved one (note the two small figures in the top left corner looking out over the view.)
Thanks for visiting Sea of Light Studio musings I hope you have some joy and wonder in your day :).
