Enduring Rock
Reflection on a painting

This painting came through on a rainy and windy day.
I sat out along the rocks in a fold out chair with a raincoat covering my body and umbrella covering the easel and artwork.
I didn't know what to expect and didn't know if I could even paint the scene where I sat, partially because I didn't have much experience painting rocks and partially because it was raining a bunch. But I saw this incredible rock, standing at almost twice my height beside the ocean and escarpment near Mount Ettalong.
What came through after a few hours of balancing pencils and umbrellas is one of my most favourite creations.
Maybe because of the memory of persevering with making art out in the rain. Maybe because of the amazing location and how beautiful it felt to be out there with this enduring rock. I also like the composition and colour and am happy I managed to leave some of the pattern of the wood board coming through. Looking at it reminds me of that beautiful day when I shared time out there with the rock.
